SF Pride Weekend 2018

SF Pride Weekend 2018

It's Pride Weekend, which means Marches and Celebrating. As happy as I am to celebrate my queerness, I can't help but feel tempered by the state of society/my place in society.

International Women's Day 2017

International Women's Day 2017

I never used to think about "my place" in the world, the workplace, or whatever. I never thought too much about what opportunities I have or don't have, or my privilege.

Rest in Power: Jordan Wieleba

Rest in Power: Jordan Wieleba

A few days ago we lost a trans woman named Jordan. She was a stand up comic from Denver, CO. She apparently was sick, but what seemed like no big deal turned into everything.

The Mirror

He looks into the mirror. He looks down at his hands. He looks back up. Then down again. He examines the lines in his palms, the creases and wrinkles.

Pre-PRIDE Post

Pre-PRIDE Post

Last year was an interesting one,  as far as Pride and I go. I was invited to come out to Dolores Park to celebrate. The morning of I heard the news that the Supreme Court had ruled that denying same sex marriages is unconstitutional. #LoveWins was everywhere and I got caught up in the fervor.

I heard about it this morning. Shots fired in a gay nightclub (Pulse) in Orlando, Florida. 50 people dead, over 50 wounded. The media is calling it the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the US.

A quick story

At first I just stare at him. Not that I'm in shock, or that I'm having second thoughts, it's just that I don't really know how to proceed. He's not staring. He's whipping his head around and trying to let everyone know how much of a badass he is. Trying to get the small circle of people who have gathered around us in this parking lot on his side.

On The Danish Girl: A Quick Review

On The Danish Girl: A Quick Review

I recently saw The Danish Girl. A biopic based on a book by the same name, itself based on the life of artist Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sexual reassignment surgery. I went out to the cinema, paid my $10 (matinee) and sat down in the cold theater (it’s freaking cold in San Francisco right now) with about a dozen other folks. I guess that not the important part of this post.
